Dear Fellows and Colleagues,

I am most honoured to be elected as President of the College of Ophthalmologists of Hong Kong. I accept this responsibility with humility and gratitude, committed to building on the remarkable legacy established by my predecessors. I look forward to working alongside all of you to uphold our shared values and aspirations.

Since its founding in 1994, our College has served a crucial role in the development of ophthalmology in Hong Kong. As one of the 15 Colleges under the Hong Kong Academy of Medicine, we oversee the training and accreditation of ophthalmologists, ensuring that every new generation of specialists meets the highest professional standards. Through continuous education and assessment, we help maintain excellent clinical practice across both the public and private healthcare sectors.

Beyond our statutory duties, the College bears a broader social responsibility to promote public awareness of eye health. We will continue to organize community outreach initiatives, educational events, and exhibitions to enhance public understanding of common ocular conditions and preventive care. These efforts are essential to reinforcing the role of ophthalmologists as the leaders and advocates of eye care in society.

Strengthening our professional community is also a key priority. I believe that collaboration, mentorship, and shared purpose are fundamental to the growth and resilience of our field. By fostering an inclusive, supportive environment across all sectors—from public service and academia to private practice—we can collectively move the profession forward and inspire future generations of practitioners.

Looking ahead, we are preparing to welcome delegates from across the globe to the Asia-Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology Congress in 2026, to be hosted here in Hong Kong. This prestigious international event is an exceptional opportunity to showcase the achievements of our ophthalmic community and to promote academic exchange and partnership on a global scale. With your dedication and participation, I am confident we will deliver a truly impactful and memorable congress.
